Shared Ministry Position Description

Position:
Eucharistic Minister

Purpose of Position:
To aid in the distribution of the consecrated Bread and Wine during the celebration of the Mass.

Responsibilities:

  1. Attendance at scheduled Masses and securing of substitute when unable to attend.
  2. Distribution of consecrated bread and wine.
  3. Cleaning and packing of the vessels after Mass.

Qualifications:

  1. Confirmed member of the Catholic Faith and at least 16 years old.
  2. Understanding and appreciation of the Catholic theology of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.
  3. Appropriate dress and ability to communicate reverence in the performance of your duties.

Amount of time required:
1 ½ hours: 15 minutes prior to Mass until 15 minutes after Mass.
Scheduled approximately 2 times per month, depending on number of volunteers

When ministry is performed:
Saturday afternoon and/or Sunday morning Masses, as well as Feast days.

Length of Commitment:
Initial appointment is made by the pastor of the parish. This is confirmed by a three-year appointment by the Archbishop, which may be renewed.

Training provided:
Initial 1-hour training, including hand-outs/training materials. Additional materials from the Archdiocese.
