Many opportunities at liturgy are open to any baptized parishioner who has received First Communion, and even younger. How young? That depends on the person's maturity. As a guideline, high school age and confirmed for Eucharistic Ministry. A bit younger for lectors, singers, and ushers. Any age to assist a parent with sacristan or greeter duties at Mass.
Art at SKD: Do you have an artistic talent? If so, we can likely utilize it for the cause of worship. Sewing, calligraphy, interior design, painting, graphic arts, computer drawing and rendering, creative writing ... your list might be longer than ours. Contact Todd Flowerday 816 838 6579 to discuss the possibilities of putting your art to the cause of the Gospel.
Music Ministers: Parishioners who share their talent during the liturgy. Any instrument is welcome. We'll work with any level of musicianship. Commit to a particular Mass and Tuesday rehearsals. Contact Todd to chat about getting on board, either as a regular or just during big events and seasons.
Altar Servers: assist the priest during Mass. Girls and boys who have made their First Eucharist may be a server. Parents are welcome to be part of the team. Contact Todd for more information. Training scheduled with Deacon Randy Bauer.
Lectors: proclaim the readings at Mass. Love of God's Word and a comfort with public speaking is needed. Theater experience a huge bonus. Contact Todd for more information.
Eucharistic Ministers: assist in the distribution of Holy Eucharist during Mass. They may also bring the Eucharist to the home-bound. This ministry requires Confirmation in the Catholic Church. Contact Todd for more information.
Greeters and Ushers: perform an important role in making visitors feel welcome at Mass. Either of these is an ideal ministry for families to share--we highly encourage these for families and new parishioners who would like a first involvement. Contact Todd for more information.
Children's Liturgy of the Word is designed to make the gospel message and the celebration of the liturgy relevant to the lives and experiences of young children. Confirmed Catholics are invited to support this important ministry for our children during the 10AM Sunday liturgy. You need not be a theologian or teacher to volunteer for this ministry. Training is provided. Contact Amanda for more information.
Sacristans prepare the church for Mass: checking ministry lists, altar bread and wine, lighting candles, and other preparations. They keep an eye on good order and assist with special set-ups for events at Mass like baptisms. Here too, check with Todd if interested. This is also a good family ministry: children assisting one or both parents.
